Proposition: Hollywood produces great
movies, but they don’t always tell the truth even it is based on “true stories”.
Provide at least two (2) premises AND two
(2) counter arguments for the proposition. Write in complete paragraphs.
We all like to watch
movies, and Hollywood movies are very synonym with the movies industry, as they
are the one who are monopolizing the industry. When we sit and watch some of
Hollywood movies, we will see during the intro credit of the movies, the phrase
“based on the true stories’. The question is, was the ‘true stories’ really
the true stories, and not the fictional one, created by the producer?
To be honest, I am kind of distrust, when I see this phrase, because how can they know about the personal problem of the characters, without adding their own information. For instance, the story from the TV series called ‘I Am a Killer’ by Netflix. How could possibly they re-enact the scene of the criminal’s life, using their own actors or actress? But, these kind of problem can be solved by conducting interviews, in order to get information regarding the person’s life. Surely the actors cannot act exactly like the person’s true life, but maybe, when we see the movies or TV series, we somehow know the gist about the person’s life journey.
Besides, the commandment from the movies. How can we surely know that the person from the movie, they said the real thing that the person in real life said? To give an illustration, the movie Hacksaw Ridge in 2016, there was one scene where during the judgement inside the court, where Desmond Doss, the main character in the movie, begged for not guilty. But, as the sources called The Veterans’ History Project, they claimed that the court martial didn’t occurred at all. So, where’s the truth here? In contrast, as I said before, we cannot re-enact the whole story, as it would take a long time. Maybe the scene was added in order to make the story more interesting. Yes, the additional scene can be added, as long as the true path of the story can be recognized by the audience. Maybe, if Hacksaw Ridge used the true story 100%, the movie will somehow not become dramatic and boring.
To conclude this discussion, I would say that the Hollywood movies are really great when it comes to re-enact the true stories to the cinema’s screen. Maybe the Hollywood production cannot exactly copy the real life stories, but somehow, they can show the world about the gist about the real life about some people, in order to share the journey with the world.
